Commercial solar systems

A competitive edge for business

Considering solar for your business?

If your business uses power during daylight hours, solar will almost always have a positive impact on your power bills. At NRG Solar, we see a conservative 25% return on investment (ROI) and an average payback period of 2.5 to 4 years.

In fact, we often see returns of 40% or more, especially on larger commercial solar systems.

This is because the government’s Small-Scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme allocates certificates by system size and many commercial clients are able to supply nearly 100% of their own power needs.

Sustainable solutions at scale

Witness our largest commercial battery installation yet: a powerful 156kW system with 160kWh storage capacity at the Service SA building in Modbury, managed by Arcana Capital. The goal for this project was to help reduce daily purchasing of energy that Service SA faced whilst operating, as well as managed the large overnight load that contributed to their bills. You can see the entire install as well as an in-depth discussion on their monitoring and how it all works.

What's included in an NRG commercial solar system?

Three main components make up our solar systems:

In recent times with the price of solar batteries getting cheaper and the cost of electricity rising, battery storage for commercial solar have become increasingly common.

We have installed many battery storage systems into commercial properties to deliver solutions to meet customers’ needs, including lower power bills, reduced peak demand and energy security (blackout protection).

We’re proud to say that we only recommend solar panels, inverters and battery storage solutions that have industry-leading reliability, performance and warranties. We'd happy to assist you in designing and understanding your potential return on solar storage investment.

Beware: The smallest details can make a big difference

When it comes to solar, a lot of time is spent focusing on panels, inverters and batteries - and rightly so. But what about the unspoken components of your system?

Believe it or not, sub-components can have a massive effect on system performance and longevity. In fact, solar panels rarely break on their own. Issues with cabling and poor racking are far more common. As your local solar repair specialist, we see these problems every day.

That’s why with NRG Solar, you also get top-quality cabling, isolators, AC and DC breakers, cable tray and covers, and built-to-last Clenergy racking.

How much does a commercial solar system cost?

When it comes to solar, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. The cost of your system will depend on your needs and objectives. A more useful approach is to focus on how much the system will save you and how quickly it will pay for itself.

For example: An NRG Solar commercial system that costs $50,000 and results in power bill savings of $25,000 per annum will pay for itself in just two years. And it will continue generating annual savings of around $25,000 (or more if power prices continue to rise) for up to 25+ years. That’s a projected saving of around $750,000 on an original investment of just $50,000.

When we do our analysis, we provide you with a detailed projection of your savings and payback period. We also compare cash and finance payment methods, showing what you will save over the lifetime of the system for each option. Many businesses find that the cost of finance is easily offset by their power bill savings.

Determining the right size for your commercial solar system

The size of your commercial solar system will come down to a variety of factors. Some clients want to eliminate their power bills altogether, while others seek to reduce peak demand or simply see their bills go down. An increasing number of clients want to protect their businesses from blackouts.

Taking all of these factors into account, as well as solar rebates and incentives, we will work with you to analyse your energy use and recommend a tailored system size to perfectly suit your business.

Solar panels and inverters we recommend and install

When it comes to battery storage, NRG works closely with BYD, Sungrow and Tesla battery storage systems, tailored to your specific application and requirements.

Our recommended inverters are paired with industry- leading Trina panels and fixed with Schletter racking.

More frequently asked questions on commercial solar

What capacity Solar System do I need to meet my business' energy needs?

The size of your commercial solar system will come down to a variety of factors. Some clients want to eliminate their power bills all together, while others seek to reduce peak demand or simply see their bills go down. An increasing number of clients want to protect their businesses from blackouts.

Taking all of these factors into account, as well as solar rebates and incentives, we will work with you to analyze your energy use and recommend a tailored system size to perfectly suit your business.

Is my business suited to solar? do i receive enough sunlight?

There's no specific, set amount of sunlight needed for solar panels. Technology is forever advancing and thus continuing to increase the efficiency of solar panels.

Solar has proven itself time and time again as a reliable energy source and profitable investments.

NRG provides an in house, full turnkey solar solution for you. Our design consultants and engineers will collaborate and work together with you on building a solar solution for you specific to your application and requirements.

when will i see a return on my solar investment?

You will start to see a return on your investment the day your system is turned on for the first time. Your solar panels will immediately start generating energy which when self-consumed will offset your grid usage and inevitably start your savings journey.

An average payback period of 2.5 to 4 years is estimated on a commercial solar only system.

HOW TO MAINTAIN your commercial solar SYSTEM

For your peace of mind, NRG Solar offers commercial Operating and Maintenance contracts. This will give you the customer peace of mind knowing your system will be closely monitored by our professional NRG experienced staff. A monthly report will be generated and shared with the customer to confirm the system is performing efficiently and as expected.

what are the benefits of a battery storage system for my business?

Battery storage enables greater self-consumption of renewable energy by storing excess energy that is being generated from the solar panels.

Battery storage systems can also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional power generation by storing excess solar energy. This energy stored in batteries can be used when the generation from solar is less that the required consumption, or when there is no sun available to generate energy. This inevitably reducing their carbon footprint.

A battery storage system can also provide emergency backup in the event of a power outage, guaranteeing business continuity.

What if I lease my property?

You don’t need to own your building to benefit from solar or for it to make great financial sense! The first step is to see if your landlord is interested in contributing. Solar can be a positive investment in quality tenants, which is why commercial property owners are often happy to be involved in solar projects.

What if your landlord is not willing to help? Don’t let that stop you from getting a quote. We regularly install solar for businesses who are in leased premises. The payback period could be just a couple of years, followed by free solar power for the balance of your lease. All you need is your landlord’s consent to install solar at the property.
